08/2017-10/2018 is the longest project that I have ever worked on. It is constructed out of a very specific type of hand-printed Japanese paper. I hand folded every piece of origami in this piece. I spent over a year folding and the “building” this intricate piece of origami artwork.
This piece is meant to be an explosion of color and form. The very geometric base contrasts dramatically with the organic shapes of the flowers.
I also treated this project as an exercise in the line between three-dimensional and two-dimensional works of art. The three-dimensional Origami forms are mounted on a two-dimensional canvas. In fact, when viewed only from the front, the piece looks flat, it is only when viewing from the sides of the piece that the work becomes sculptural.
